Submission Guidelines

Ephemeral Record publishes short and thoughtful articles that explore historical perspectives and practices related to queer and trans histories.

Ephemeral Record publishes short and thoughtful articles that explore historical perspectives and practices related to queer and trans histories. Anyone actively engaged in historical research is encouraged to submit, whether a tenured academic or a community member with deep knowledge of the issue at hand.

I welcome submissions concerning any period or place, though I particularly welcome submissions that centre under-represented and historically marginalized communities. All submissions should be anchored in research engage in 2SLGBTQIA+ histories, and be written for a general audience.

All posts should meet the historical profession’s ethical standards and best practices including, where applicable, research ethics protocols, research agreements, and opportunities for comment from living individuals or institutions named in an article.

Submissions should be clean, polished drafts that are written in an accessible style for a general audience, use hyperlinks and footnotes, and be between 800 to 1,500 words. When submitting a post, be sure to include:

  • a short list of accessible resources
  • five keywords that will help website users find your article
  • at least one image that you have permission to use, with appropriate caption, alt text, and credit information
  • any pertinent ethical considerations
  • your name, email address, social media handles, and institutional affiliation (if any)
  • a short biography (maximum of 150 words)
